A Birthday

Happy Birthday to Peter Tork.
We love you, you adorable Aquarius!
And I will name some of the reasons to love this cutie:

  • He had the cutest smile ever!
  • He can play so many instruments, probably the most talented Monkee when it came to instruments.
  • I actually love his voice, his singing voice
  • Torksmith, that is a reason
  • His man crush on Davy
So happy birthday Peter, I hope you are well and doing what you love the most!
We all love you so much <3

The girl that I knew somewhere

It's been almost a week I haven't posted here!
Yeah, sorry about that.

But without the excuses today, I'm back to share with you something that I find somewhat funny the the sense that it's weird and interesting.
My mum is prefers 'newer' music (I say newer because it's far newer than what I listen to but some would say it came out ages ago) and she plays some tracks over and over like 'You remind me' by Usher. See, told you its not that new but new to me.
But I mention this song, first of all, because its one that she plays that I actually like but also because it has a lot of parallels to The Girl That I Knew Somewhere.
I'm not saying it's copied, not at all, but it's fun to notice some of the stuff that are similar, here are a few examples:

They're both about current girlfriends or somebody they are seeing at the moment
Evidence: They are singing directly to her for a start off. It also has subtext that both the girl they are singing to and the one that they 'once knew' where romantic partners. Usher even says 'This is why I just can't get with you' meaning, they can't either continue or properly begin a relationship. There isn't a whole line in the Monkees song to support this but there is one word, when the 'singer' calls his lover 'Dear' something that you might call a romantic partner (not so much in this day and age but...)

They are both telling the girl about a previous relationship that ended bad.
Evidence: The previous relationship is evident as they both are comparing the girl they are currently with to someone the knew before and says that they were badly treated by her. The actual lyrics:
Monkees: 'Someone, somewhere did me this same wrong.'
Usher: 'You won't believe all of the things she put me through.'

The girl that they are with reminds them of this previous relationship and they are breaking it off with her so not to get hurt again.
Evidence: The whole point of the songs is that this current girlfriend reminds them of the previous one who (presumably) cheated on them, hence why they don't want to continue the relationship. Here are the lyrics:
Monkees: 'You tell me things I know that I've heard somewhere. You're standing in the places and you're staring down through faces, that bring to mind traces of a girl, a girl that I knew somewhere.'
'I just can't take this chance again.'
'And if your love was not a game' (proof she might've cheated)
Usher: 'You remind me of a girl, that I once knew. See her face whenever I, I look at you... This is why I just can't get with you.'

They are both sorry because they don't know for sure if this girl is like the other but they can't get it out of their minds how similar they are.
Evidence: This only really needs the lyrics to explain:
Monkees: 'And if your love was not a game, I only have myself to blame.'
'my thoughts are bound down in a whirl. I just can't think who in the world was that girl'
Usher: 'I know it's so unfair to you, That I relate her ignorance to you.Wish I knew, wish I knew how to separate the two'

In short, these songs are a guy telling his girlfriend that they have to break up because she reminds them of a previous girlfriend who cheated on them.

So, this post was texty, sorry, but I do like analysing things and  this was quite fun. Can you find any other songs that are so similar to the Monkees

Who would, my answers

As promised, more of my answers to Who would?

Be the fussiest eater?
I believe Davy would be the one to have a particular (english) preference when it comes to food so he might want to make his own dinner once in a while. Could you imagine him importing food that he could probably get in America from England just to look posh? I could.

Get the groceries?
While Mike might feel inclined to go out and do the shopping once in a while and Davy would be off getting his own stuff, I think the guys might, sometimes, trust Peter with a shopping list. If he knows whats on it, he'll probably get it all right just to please his friends because Peter's just like that. He wants everyone to be happy. Similar to Micky but I think Micky would be more interested in the sweets section of a shop than the rest of it and, whoever's sending the others out to shop, I think Micky would be the last on their list unless they wanted a cart full of chocolate, desserts and whatever else he fancies on the day.

Go missing for ages without telling anyone where they're going?
I imagine Mike would be gone for ages in the Monkeemobile for a drive, Davy going out with girls and arriving back at totally random hours but Peter, I think would be the most likely to get lost and spend ages trying to get back. And this would happen all the time. The only problem with getting him to do the shopping for the week is he might not find his way back on his own.

Be the most likely to chat up girls where ever they went?
Ah well, Davy would be my first bet but Micky might have more confidence. Davy seems to become a little... um... dazed when he sees a girl. My bet is Micky would stroll up to a girl and joke with her without even realizing he's basically made a move.

Be the first to try new activities?
Micky, I think, would always be enthusiastic about trying new things, food especially, but I'm sure his wimpy-ness in the episodes would stop him from doing a lot of stuff. If Peter wasn't told exactly what he was going to do, I think his adorable innocence would make him blind to dangers or fear.

Listen to their own music?
It really depends, I'd say. Peter might actually enjoy listening to the Monkees for fun, Mike, to make sure his songs were (so he'd listen more to demos) Micky, I dunno if he would and Davy would to listen to his own voice. Not that I think he has a huge ego or something...

Want to go out to eat the most?
Peter might be the one to always ask if they could go out to eat but Davy would always want to go to some posh restaurant if there's the money. The other's, I'm sure, are happy with a towering sandwich made with one day over the best before date.

Spend the most money?
Yeah, Davy. Something tells me with all that posh food he'd want and to look as adorable as he does, he'd probably spend the most on food and beauty products. Probably...

Want to hug the others the most and Never forget to say goodnight to the others?
Peter is my answer to both of these for the same reason, Peter loves his friends (and everyone and everything) So he'd want so many hugs from the others and always call from his bed goodnight to the others, just so they all know how much he loves them. Adorable, isn't it?

Here's me singing... Again

Well, I'm no Micky, nor Davy or Mike or Peter with singing but I sure do try!
I adore the song Propinquity (I've Just Begun To Care) So here's me playing and singing (badly) I think Mike's first picture sums up my expression when I played it back.
Shades of Grey to come and the rest of the answers to who would!
See ya soon

Who would, my anwsers

So, as I said, here are my answers to the who would? Do you agree? I'm going to do this in two posts or else it would be too much writing.
Who Would:

Do the housework?
I think Mike would constantly be stuck having to clean up after his friends. I mean, as the leader and with all their Monkee antics, he'd be the one to clean up, do the housework, put everything away. I also think, though, if he asked Peter, they might do it together. peter wouldn't want Mike to do it all alone.

Nag the others to do housework but never really do it himself?
Davy. He probably would be too lazy to clean up after everyone and he really wouldn't like chores but he wouldn't want to live in mess.

Have the cleanest room?
Again, Davy I think. Here's my reasoning. He keeps everything clean on his side of the room because he doesn't like to live in mess and it is his own mess. He doesn't mind that. Also, with all the girls he thinks he's going to get, he wants to make a good impression if ever any girls do come around. I think Mike would be reasonably clean but between looking after his friends and cleaning up after them, he might get a bit lazy some days and just forget to pick things up or hang his clothes in the wardrobe or whatever. Also, being in a room with Micky, I'm sure his stuff would over take Mike's side of the room too.

Have the messiest room?
Like I said, I think Micky would be the messiest. Dunno why but I doubt it's because he's too lazy. I bet he doesn't like cleaning and is so energetic he might just leave everything all over the floor. There's method to his madness, though. I'm sure he knows where most of his stuff is.

Cook?
Mike, again. The others would help, I think, like Peter in 'don't look a gift horse in the mouth' and they all would probably have their own preferences when it comes to food so they might make their own but Mike seems to always be eating in the first series. Also, they don't like Peter's cooking, Micky would make science experiments, Davy might be too lazy or just focus on making his own food so... yeah, Mike.

Fix stuff (or call Mr Babbit to get someone in to fix stuff)?
Micky, like in Monkee Mother.

Watch TV the most?
Maybe Micky. I imagine him as a bit of a Trekkie... maybe. With the implications in the episodes that he likes science and experimenting, he might like Star Trek. Not sure about the others. Davy might just be watching for adverts with pretty models or something like that.

Look for work the most?
Mike, I'm sure, would be all about trying to get jobs for them all. Having to be the leader means he probably wants to make enough to provide for his friends and this is evident in some of the episodes where he concerns himself with trying to get jobs while the others don't really seem to care as much.

Spend the most time in their room?
Mike, again. Maybe Davy but I don't want to know what he's doing in there. I believe Mike would need more alone time while the others would want to be together more.

Drive the Monkeemobile the most?
Mike is going to be the answer to a lot of these, it seems. Back to the alone time, I think he'll want to go on long drives without the guys for a bit. Also real life Mike loves cars. He is seen quite a lot in the episodes driving, Micky being the other one who does sometimes.
